MATT TWYMAN
Austin, Texas
This is my 20th year of climbing. From the age of 9, I basically grew up at Pseudo Rock in downtown Austin where I experienced climbing with many of the local legends and was told epic stories of the development of central Texas climbing. While my career has been spent mostly bouldering and sport climbing, for the last 5 years I’ve dedicated my local climbing time to Enchanted Rock. Trad climbing has recently been added to the rack of styles and techniques, and experiencing onsite climbing on scary slab or hard trad, or even revisiting classic sport routes with a trad view, is now my favorite way to climb.
After all this time of getting psyched on projects and the next thing around the corner, the notion of giving back in some way grew on me and I decided to serve on the CTCC during the 2008 – 2010 term where I served as the Information Officer. This has been an exhausting, but very rewarding experience that I hope to continue. Organizing the Gripper has been a blast and I really look forward to further developing the event. Of particular importance though has been the knowledge I’ve gained about bolting and hardware maintenance. One doesn’t have to look far at ERock to find pieces that are less than ideal, and I want to be a part of the retro-fitting effort. Of equal importance to me has been the documenting of CTCC & central Texas climbing history as well as making the committee, its processes & dealings more publicly available.
The Fall-Winter 2009 season was incredible for me and I was able to empty much of my eager desires to climb particular lines in the park. ERock is an invaluable resource that I love to promote, and I’m looking forward to serving the park more in the 2010 – 2012 term.
